Upcoming Horror Movies 2009

Here’s a list of the upcoming horror movies for 2009. If I’ve left any movies off the list, please let me know, and I’ll update this post. I’m including thoughts on whether or not the movies will be good when I have an opinion too.

Upcoming Horror Movies – March 2009

  • March 13, 2009 – The Last House on the Left – This is a remake of a Wes Craven movie that I’ve never seen. The trailer looks good. I’ll definitely see it.
  • March 27, 2009 – The haunting in Connecticut – I saw the trailer for this one too, and it also looked like something I’d like to see. I’m a big fan of Virginia Madsen. This is supposed to be based on a “true story”.

Upcoming Horror Movies – April 2009

  • April 3, 2009 – Alien Trespass – This one’s a throwback to the horror/science fiction movies of the 1950′s. It’s only coming out in limited release though, unfortunately.
  • April 24, 2009 – Mutant Chronicles – If the cast is any indication, this will be a winner. Thomas Jane is in it, and so is Ron Perlman and John Malkovich. Should be a winner. (We carry the boardgame here at the store too.)

Upcoming Horror Movies – May 2009

  • May 25, 2009 – Pontypool – An independent film about a virus that makes people act violent. (Sounds like 28 Days Later.) Could be a real winner or a real loser; it’s hard to say. You can bet it will have a tiny release though.
  • May 29, 2009 – Drag Me To Hell – Finally, a new horror movie from Sam Raimi. You can consider me there. Curses, damnation, and Sam Raimi. What more could you ask for from a horror movie?

Upcoming Horror Movies – July 2009

  • July 17, 2009 – All The Boys Love Mandy Lane – This doesn’t look very interesting to me.
  • July 24, 2009 – Orphan – Don’t know anything about this one or the people making it.

Upcoming Horror Movies – August 2009

  • August 21, 2009 – Final Destination – Death Trap 3d – I might see this just because I’m really digging 3d these days. I haven’t seen any of the other movies in the franchise though.
  • August 28, 2009 – H2 – This is the Rob Zombie directed sequel to Rob Zombie’s Halloween. I have no hope that this movie will be worth seeing in any way.

Upcoming Horror Movies – September 2009

  • September 11, 2009 – Daybreakers – A movie set in the future where almost everyone has turned into a vampire. Sounds cool to me. Great cast too, with Willem Dafoe and Sam Neill.
  • September 11, 2009 – Whiteout – Doesn’t sound worth the trouble to me, but maybe…
  • September 18, 2009 – Jennifer’s Body – This one sounds like it has potential. Has something to do with a demon or vampire possessing a high school girl.
  • September 18, 2009 – Splice - This one’s going to be in limited release, but it has the beautiful Sarah Polley in it. So I’ll see it.
  • September 25, 2009 – The Crazies – A loose remake of George Romero’s film of the same name. Stars Timothy Olyphant. Probably a bad sign.

Upcoming Horror Movies – October 2009

  • October 9, 2009 – Zombieland – A horror comedy starring Woody Harrelson. Count me int.
  • October 16, 2009 – The Stepfather – Another remake. I’ve heard that the original was good, but I can’t find it on DVD anywhere.
  • October 23, 2009 – Saw VI - I haven’t seen a good Saw movie since the first one.

Upcoming Horror Movies – November 2009

  • November 6, 2009 – The Wolfman – Another remake, but one that makes sense. I’m looking forward to this one.
  • November 20, 2009 – New Moon – I’ll probably skip this one, since I didn’t see the previous movie in the saga.
  • November 25, 2009 – The Box – This one looks cool to me. I’ll see it for sure.

Upcoming Horror Movies – December 2009

  • December 11, 2009 – The Lovely Bones – This will be one worth seeing. Directed by LOTR’s Peter Jackson, and based on the Alice Sebold novel that was so well-received.

I’m sure there are others, but these are the upcoming horror movies in 2009 which seem to have theatrical releases coming up.
