Horror Book Club - Horror Reading Group
The book club is going to be hosted by Forrest Jackson of Rosedale Rare Books moving forward. You can find his contact information and the location of his store after the link. As of November 14, 2011, this page is no longer being updated with details about the goings-on of the book club. For now, I'm leaving the contents of this page live for archival purposes.

December 2010 Horror Book Club Selection at Eerie Books
Thursday, December 2, 6:30pm
The book club will meet and discuss The Turn of the Screw by Henry James. The Turn of the Screw is an ambiguous ghost story originally published in 1898, but it's short and very accessible. Unlike some of the books we've read in the past, The Turn of the Screw can easily be read in a single evening by most people.

January 2011 Horror Book Club Selection at Eerie Books
Thursday, January 6, 6:30pm
The book club will meet and discuss At the Mountains of Madness by H.P. Lovecraft. The Mountains of Madness is a 1931 novella about an expedition to Antarctica.

February 2011 Horror Book Club Selection at Eerie Books
Thursday, February 3, 6:30pm
The book club will meet and discuss Dracula by Bram Stoker. Dracula probably needs no introduction, but here's one anyway: it's an 1897 novel about a vampire.

Pontypool Changes Everything by Tony Burgess
Thursday, July 1, 2010, 6:30pm
We will be talking about Tony Burgess's novel Pontypool Changes Everything. A language-spread virus is the catalyst that drives thousands of people mad. They go on a murderous rampage, and the novel follows multiple strange characters throughout these events.
We'll be serving food and drink. All Wylie Horror Book Club events are free, and we offer significant discounts on book club selections each month to members.

Horns: A Novel by Joe Hill
Thursday, August 5, 2010, 6:30pm
We're going to talk about Joe Hill's new novel, Horns in August. Ig (the protagonist) wakes up with horns. But that's not all. He also awakes with the ability to get folks to own up to their deepest, darkest secrets and desires.
We'll be serving food and drink at the discussion, as always.

In Darkness Waiting
Our next horror book club meeting is scheduled for Thursday, June 3, 2010 at 6:30pm. We'll be discussing John Shirley's book, In Darkness Waiting.
In Darkness Waiting is a 1988 horror novel about insect-like monsters who swarm through a small town. If you liked The Mist and/or The Dome, then this is the same kind of thing, only better and scarier.
Rick Kleffel called In Darkness Waiting "...an intelligent, intellectual piece of literary science fiction exquisitely imagined and grippingly plotted."
We have copies of In Darkness Waiting in stock, and if you tell us that you're buying the book for the book club meeting, we'll offer you a 20% discount on the cover price.
So please come by and pick up a copy in time to read the book before June 3.
Pontypool Changes Everything
The following book club meeting is scheduled for Thursday, July 1, 2010 at 6:30pm. We'll be discussing Pontypool Changes Everything by Tony Burgess. In Pontypool Changes Everything, a deadly virus causes people to go on a murderous rampage. This is actually one book of a trilogy about the Pontypool virus, which rampages across Canada. It's also been filmed as a low-budget horror movie that received significant amounts of positive coverage among horror film fans.
If you're interested in a different take on the virus-causes-zombie-outbreak horror story, then Pontypool Changes Everything is a must read. We do have copies in stock, and we're offering a 20% discount to people who mention that they want to read it for the book club.

Forrest Jackson pointed out that I haven't updated this page in forever. In fact, he shamed me in front of the entire book club, so I have now updated this page. Next month we're reading Pride and Prejudice and Zombies.
Updated November 3, 2009
The book club meets this Thursday night at 6:30pm to discuss Some of Your Blood by Theodore Sturgeon. As always, pizza, beer, and wine will be served. We will also have copies of our next month's book selection (My Work Is Not Yet Done by Thomas Ligotti) available for sale. (I have a limited number of autographed copies available.)
Updated May 18, 2009
We had almost 15 people at our most recent book club meeting! That's a record turnout, but we're happy to hose more. Be sure to attend our next horror book club meeting on Thursday, June 4, 2009, and we'll be discussing the novel Dead Until Dark, which was the basis for the popular True Blood series on HBO. Scroll down the page to take a look at some of our upcoming (and past) book discussions.
Updated February 17, 2009
So far we've had 3 very successful meetings of the Wylie Horror Book Club. I particularly enjoyed the book House of Leaves, and I think most of the people who visited the store also enjoyed it. I'd like to thank Forrest from Rosedale Rare Books for attending and sharing his thoughts on the book.
Scroll down for a schedule of upcoming books we're discussing.

We're in the process of putting together a horror book club (horror book reading group) that will meet the first Thursday each month from like 6:30pm to 8:30pm or 9pm. We will be meeting here at the store on Ballard Street in Wylie, Texas. We'll read one book each month, and at our first meeting, we'll choose the 12 books we're going to read for the year. If you're interested in being part of the Wylie Horror Book Club, please contact us at the store. The phone number is 972-442-9393, or you can email randy ray at gmail dot com.
Our first meeting will be on Thursday night, November 6, 2008, at 6:30pm at Eerie Books at 205 N. Ballard St., Wylie, TX. There we'll select the horror books that our reading group will read.
Also, since we're hosting, we'll serve beer, wine, soft drinks, and snacks at each monthly meeting. If there's enough interest, we could launch a 2nd book club which meets on a different night, since a group that gets larger than a dozen members might get unwieldy.
I hope to hear from someone soon about the book club! Also, this page is relevant to people looking for:
- Wylie book clubs
- Wylie reading groups
- Murphy book clubs
- Murphy reading groups
- Sachse book clubs
- Sachse reading groups
- Garland book clubs
- Garland reading groups
- Farmersville book clubs
- Farmersville reading groups
All of those towns are a short drive from Wylie, so people from Murphy, Sachse, Garland, and Farmersville who want to be involved in a horror book club and horror reading group are invited.
So if you want to read and discuss Twilight books by Stephanie Meyer, or anything else, please join us.
