Robert R. McCammon
Robert R. McCammon is an author noted for his work in the field
of horror fiction. With over four million copies of his books in
print, McCammon’s work has routinely made the New York Times
bestseller list.
He was born in Birmingham, Alabama on July 11th, 1952. After the
divorce of his mother and father, he was raised by his grandparents.
Throughout his youth, Robert R. McCammon had a great interest in
horror and science fiction, but he planned on becoming a journalist
instead of a professional novelist. He attended college towards that
end, getting his degree in Journalism from the University of Alabama
in 1974.
After graduation, he made a living by writing advertising copy
for newspapers and businesses in the Birmingham area. None of his
short stories had been published at this point, so he instead wrote
the novel Baal which ended up being published in 1978.
Many more short stories and novels followed, and Robert R.
McCammon was soon regarded as one of the biggest talents in his
field. Then, in 1993, he retired from the business citing
depression, exhaustion and a desire to spend more time with his
wife, Sally, and daughter, Skye.
He returned in 2002 when a small press publisher released his
book Speaks the Nightbird. This was the first book in what
would come to be known as the Matthew Corbett Series, and McCammon
continues to produce novels from his home in Birmingham, Alabama.
